UN/CEFACT Unified Modelling Methodology (UMM)

The UN/CEFACT Unified Modelling Methodology (UMM) is based on customising the Unified Process Methodology developed by Rational so as to meet UN/CEFACT needs. It uses UML as the modelling technique.

The UMM specification can be found here:

http://homepage.mac.com/knaujok/.cv/knaujok/Public/UMMWG/UMM-N090/UMM-N090R10-ALL.zip-link.zip

The Methodology consists of 4 workflows that cover the Inception and Elaboration phases of a project. These are:

  • Business Modelling
  • eBusiness Requirements
  • Analysis
  • Design.

Within each of these workflows there is a set of deliverables that must be produced. The whole process is iterative so that additions and changes can be incorporated into any of the stages as they are discovered.

At each stage a check should be made to see if similar artefacts have already been identified and stored in the UN/CEFACT repository, which can meet the new requirements. New models and artefacts should be submitted for inclusion in the repository for possible future re-use.
