UN/CEFACT

United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business

UN/ECE established UN/CEFACT in order to achieve improved world-wide co-ordination of trade facilitation.

UN/CEFACT supports activities dedicated to improving the ability of business, trade, governmental and administrative organizations, from developed, developing and transitional economies, to exchange products and relevant services effectively.  Its principle focus is to facilitate international transactions, through the simplification and harmonization of procedures and information flows, and so contribute to the growth of global commerce.

The role of UN/CEFACT in relation to ebXML is to develop, approve and maintain the ebXML compliant business content (core  components and business process model) and the related technical specifications.

In order to achieve this, UN/CEFACT:

  • Restructured the different groups in the UN/CEFACT Forum (see Forum tab),

  • Adopted a new process for the production of ebXML compliant components (see Process tab)

  • Developed a new working methodology - Open Development Process- (see ODP tab),

  • Defined a new electronic business architecture providing  logical view of the abstract architectural components in order to facilitate both Extensible Markup Language (XML) and other structured information exchanges such as Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) formats like UN/EDIFACT -United Nations Electronic Data Interchange for Administration and Transport- (see ebusiness tab).
